Technical FAQ

Q: Do your products fit with other manufacturers' after-market parts?
A: No, they do not. All of our products have been designed to be installed on the OEM motorcycle setup and with OEM motorcycle parts - for the make, model, and year specified on the product description page. In a few cases in which our products can be installed on other after-market parts, such as on the engine guards or crash bars, this will be clearly stated on the individual product description page.

Q: What items should I order with the Lowering Kit?
A: You should consider ordering either the Flatfoot for the Lowering Kit. You will need it to replace the kickstand's original foot peg after you shorten the kickstand. Shortening the kickstand is highly recommended in order to maintain the bike's original tilting angle in the parking position after lowering the rear and front suspensions. A hacksaw can be used to cut off the kickstand's end. Please follow our instructions.

Q: Why is the M12 locknut on the Rev. 1 of the lowering kit hard to screw on and not perfectly round?

A: The M12 locknut provided with the M12 screw for our lowering kit is not defective. It is a special conical shape, distorted hex locknut made in Germany designed specifically for motorcycle and automotive use. Also known as all-metal and Stover locknut or Top locknut, this one-piece nut features distorted thread that creates a vibration-resistant friction fit —so the nut stays put. It is designed in such a way that you need to use a wrench to screw it on by applying pressure.

Q: Should I also lower the front suspension after installing your lowering kit?

A: Yes, it is required that you lower the front suspension (raise front forks) as this will assure that the original geometry of the bike remains the same. You can find the instructions on our installation instructions page.

Q: Can I install your Lowering Kits if I have a Hugger (rear fender) installed on my bike?

A: Yes, you can. You may need to make a minor modification to the hugger to cut a small piece out and secure the hugger to a new hole that you would drill in the boss of the swingarm. The "boss" is a raised, reinforced hole blank that was designed and inserted by Kawasaki for drilling additional holes to secure extra mods. Here are the installation photos for the hugger with Standard Lowering Kit. You should also consult the hugger's manufacturer for any warranty issues, as we make no claims to the fit, condition, compatibility or performance of the hugger with our lowering kit.

It is recommended that you use the WR Lowering Kit instead of the Standard Lowering Kit on the bikes with no ABS in order to install the hugger - this may allow you, depending on the hugger's thickness in the area, to slide the hugger under the lowering kit and trim it only slightly. Here is a photo of a hugger installed with the WR Lowering Kit. You should use a dampening washer between the hugger and the lowering kit body for protection. You should also consult the hugger's manufacturer for any warranty issues, as we make no claims to the fit, condition, compatibility or performance of the hugger with our lowering kit.

Q: I have a problem with installing lowering foot pegs blocks  on my bike; one side fits and the other does not. What should I do?
A:
The lowering foot pegs blocks install from the side, as shown in the photos below. Please look at the installation
instructions first before attempting to install the lowering blocks. They will fit perfectly and the holes will align, as long as you follow our instructions exactly. Do not attempt to force or install the blocks in any different way, as they will jam and not function properly.

Q: What is the difference between Standard Flatfoot and the Flatfoot for the Lowering Kit?

A: The Standard Flatfoot was designed to slide onto the bike's original foot peg of the kickstand. It will not work with the bikes that had their kickstands shortened after installing the lowering kit.

Q: What GPS Units do your GPS Mounts work with?

A: Our Universal GPS/Gauge Mount can be used to custom fit any of your instruments, gauges or GPS RAM brackets. We also make GPS Mounts specifically pre-drilled for Garmin Zumo and for TomTom Rider GPS units. Our GPS mounts can only be installed on the 2007 through 2009 Kawasaki Versys models.

Q: How can I adjust pre-load on my Ninja 650R or ER-6?

A: If you need to adjust the rear pre-load or rotate the spring so that the spring does not touch the frame, it is easy to do. The spanner provided in the toolkit is used to adjust the preload by rotating a ring at the top of the shock, which is easily accessible on the right side of the bike. The ring is stepped, and simply compresses the shock in six steps as you rotate it. Stiffening the rear shock all the way will fix rubbing against the frame. The wider the space between the shock adjuster and the spring, the stiffer the suspension. So, the tighter your spring, the stiffer your suspension. You will need to find the spanner wrench in your motorcycle tool kit and place it under your shock adjusts, hooking the tip into the slots provided. Next, pull upwards. Each adjustment will click into place one at a time.

Q: Do your items come with all hardware?

A: Yes, our products come with all hardware necessary for their installation, except when marked as your responsibility on the product description page and/or in our installation instructions.

We recommend that you use Loctite ® Threadlocker Blue No 242 with the fasteners that do not come with self-locking nuts, especially with the Phillips screws for Flatfoot for Lowering Kit and Standard Flatfoot. This is a standard recommendation for motorcycle fasteners where vibrations can cause screws to loosen over time.

Q: Do your items come with installation instructions?

A: All products that require the instructions come with easy, step-by-step installation instructions with photos. The instructions are posted in the Acrobat PDF file format for easy viewing and printing.
